The San Diego Lantern Festival

Due to venue constraints and unforeseen complications with the carnival company, we regret to inform you that the 2015 San Diego Lantern Festival has been cancelled indefinitely. The Project Planning Committee has weighed the advantages and disadvantages of hosting an event without the necessary components and feel it is in the best interest of all parties to focus our attention on the larger and more accessible Lunar New Year Festival, scheduled February 5-7, 2016, at Qualcomm Stadium.

As summer draws to a close and autumn returns to San Diego, families and friends gather to enjoy a balmy evening in the park amid colorful displays of lanterns festively flickering against the night sky. This is the San Diego Lantern Festival, a one-of-a-kind event that brings together neighbors, businesses, students and community groups for a fun, safe, and cultural experience.

Each year, the San Diego Lantern Festival draws an average of 10,000 – 15,000 attendees from all walks of life. The event is a perfect mix of delicious food, unique vendors, lively entertainment and family-friendly activities and games. The Lantern Festival also features a fantastic line up of cultural entertainment including lion dances, street performers, concerts, dancing and of course, a breathtaking display of 6,000 lanterns in the evening.
